Currently, the blessing culture is stronger in Chenzhou city. The Chinese character “福” (which pronounces Fu means blessing) is all over Suxianling. There is a large blessing tripod facilitated in Longnv hot spring. So some people called Chenzhou city as a “blessing city”. But people seldom well understand the word of “blessing”, they just follow other people to call so. Some people considered blessing means happiness, but different people have their different understanding of happiness. “福” is the most popular used lucky word by Chinese people. What is “福”? From the formation of character, it is an associative character of oracle bones inscriptions means praying for happiness. Then it was transformed to be a phonogram which has the same meaning of示(refers to Gods in general) and pronounced Fu. According to “Shuowenjiezi”, “福” means well prepared for everything. Nobody can well prepare for everything, except Gods. “Hanfeizi” interprets “福” as “long-lived, wealthy, and noble”, which maybe the very first interpretation of the character “福” in Chinese history. It is still be suitable for current situation. Of course, generally speaking, it is hard for people to reach the three standards, but just two of them can be called as a blessing man. There is a saying: life and death are decreed by fate, and Wealth and rank are matters of destiny. So if people want to pray for blessing, they pray to the Gods. Chenzhou people would think about Suxianling which is honored as “the 18th blessing place of China”. In ancient times, because of the Taoism legend of Su Dan, Suxianling was called the blessing place. Most of the Taoists chose some famous mountains to practice Taoism in ancient times. So in Taoism, blessing place referred to the holy lands where the Gods lived. 36 cave paradises and 72 blessing places were the fairly lands in Taoism. But according to some data of Taoism, the “18th blessing place” refers to some other places where are located in Jiangsu and Zhejiang province, rather than Suxianling. Of course, it doesn’t mean that Suxianling is not a blessing place. Actually, according to the ideas of Taoism, Chenzhou city is a blessing place for it is with abundant mountains and Gods. There are many mountains were named after the character “仙” （which pronounces Xian means God）, such as Xiantaishan, Xianjushan, Houxianling, Liuxianling, Xianmushan, Huixianling, Baxianshan, Suxianshan, Luoxianshan, and etc. From the names, we can learn that many Gods have been to Chenzhou city. But compared with some even more famous Gods of Taoism, the Gods who ever visited Chenzhou city were less famous. Su Dan is the most famous God recorded in the Taoism data. Chenzhou city is also influenced by Buddhism to be a blessing place. Chenzhou city belong to Chu area in ancient China, so it was normal for it was influenced by Taoism first, and then by Buddhism. Buddhism became stronger in the later period of ancient China. People prayed for the Gods of Buddhism instead of Taoism accordingly. There were far more Buddhism temples than Taoism temples built in Chenzhou city in Qing Dynasty. Till now, 60% of the members in religious faiths are Buddhism believers, accounting to 300,000 members which is far more than the number of 60,000 of the Taoism believers. It indicated that people place less attention on immortal life. Compared with such Taoism pursuit, the Buddhism in Chenzhou city mainly tells people to do good things and then would be paid with good return, such as safety.

Chenzhou people are pragmatic. When encountered with the disasters, praying for bless actually refers to praying for escaping from the disasters. No disaster means blessing. Guanyin Bodhisattva who is famous as the Goddess of mercy was usually set in the Buddhism temple. Maybe you are not a religious believer, but you can’t intervene others faiths. Actually, most of religious faiths indicated the spirit of modesty, which can help to restrain people’s strong desires. Different people have their understanding of blessing, so it is not bad for people have different awareness of blessing culture. All Chenzhou people have the common sense that to live harmonious with the nature and with people. On this point, concerned for the thinking of blessing culture, besides pasting the character “福” and building landscapes of blessing culture, all Chenzhou people should work together to protect the environment and create a luck blessing culture environment which is full of “forest” .
